Global Survivors Network applauds the world’s leaders who are coming together this week to address the gravest threat facing all nations – that of nuclear terrorism. As survivors of terrorism, we know all too well the life-changing horror that is inflicted to all those affected by terrorism. In the case of nuclear terrorism, hundreds of thousands of individuals would be killed or injured, an event that would change life on this planet as we know it.
Sadly, the threat of nuclear terrorism remains high. Terrorists around the globe have clearly stated their intentions to inflict as much harm as possible to innocents in nations far and wide. Without the cooperation of world leaders, we cannot protect our families, friends and neighbors against this catastrophic danger.
Discussions at the Nuclear Security Summit must avoid politics and posturing and focus on the task at hand – that of locking down and eliminating nuclear materials so that they do not fall into the hands of those who would do us harm. Citizens of the world will be watching. Our safety and security depends on our leaders doing what is right, not necessarily what is easy or expedient.
Global Survivors Network is hopeful that through international efforts such as the Nuclear Security Summit, no other families will have to endure the pain and grief we live with every day. There is no better way to honor our loved ones and our grief than to create the safer, more secure world we all hope to live in.

The Global Survivors Network is comprised of people working to prevent future acts of terror. We hail from six continents, represent many different religions and are united by a common cause: what happened to us, and so many others, should never happen again.
